Webbing is primarily categorized into two types: woven webbing and knitted webbing. Webbing-particularly jacquard webbing-shares some similarities with the production of woven labels; however, the underlying mechanics differ. In woven labels, the warp threads remain fixed while the weft threads form the pattern. Conversely, in webbing, the base weft threads are fixed, and the warp threads create the pattern. Produced on specialized small-scale machinery, the process of pattern setup, threading, and machine adjustment is time-consuming, resulting in relatively lower production efficiency. Nevertheless, this method allows for the creation of a dazzling array of diverse products, avoiding the repetitive, limited styles often associated with woven labels. Webbing serves both decorative and functional purposes-such as popular mobile phone straps.

Once woven, the straps can also be screen-printed with text or patterns, a process that is generally more cost-effective than weaving the designs directly into the fabric.

Woven webbing is further classified into two main categories: shuttleless webbing and shuttle-based webbing. Shuttleless webbing is currently more widely used in the market than shuttle-based webbing.
